The Flag Project began as a response to the overwhelming appearance of American Flags in my New England town following 9/11. Wondering just what my neighbors were saying by those flags, I invited people to make their own flags. Red fabric was provided for angry feelings, blue for sad expressions and white for hopes. I was joined by a talented team of artists and educators in implementing the flag project: Emily Archer, JerriAnne Boggis, Aaron Brown, Susan Brown, Judy Fasulo, Gary Pinnette, Carol Renwick, Randi Stein and Blake Wood. The flags were hung on the Wilton Town Hall and Police Department, the Milford Town Hall and Town Green and then thanks to State Rep Hal Melcher all the flags were brought to our state capital and hung on the State House. Finally all the flags together with a video became a museum installation exploring the confluence of diverse individual views and collective national expression. |
