Hari Kirin Kaur aka Joan Hanley. |
I began practicing yoga and meditation in a Catholic high school in NYC in 1970. Several years later I met Yogi Bhajan* who brought Kundalini Yoga to the US. I studied and corresponded with him until his recent passing. He gave me the name, Hari Kirin — Hari is the Creative Feminine aspect of God and Kirin is a focused beam of light which can cut through the darkness. Kundalini Yoga is the primary practice that sustains me, but I enjoy practicing many styles of yoga. I have been blessed to learn from gifted teachers of Hatha Yoga (Ashtanga, Kripalu, Iyengar, Vinasa), Christian Contemplation, and Mindfulness Meditation, as well as fellow Kundalini Yoga teachers. I love teaching yoga, and I still enjoy being a student. I just completed a Teacher Intensive with Shiva Rea, and I will be studying in Assisi, Italy in May with my dear friends and senior Kundalini teachers, Gurucharan Singh and Guru Dev Singh. Lastly, one of my most influential yoga teachers is someone who has never done an asana — my husband, Thomas Moore. Our daily conversations inform all my practice and teaching. * About Yogi Bhajan: Master of Kundalini |
